Our design for 290 Highland Avenue begins construction this month. Working closely with Boston Real Estate Collaborative, Bloom Architecture completed the design of this new four-story contemporary mixed-use building on a major Somerville thoroughfare. Above the street level commercial space, a variety of unit sizes and configurations create seven unique unit layouts, focusing on individual access to outdoor space. Street level plantings and roof garden areas soften the facades, while a mix of exterior materials create an appropriate sense of scale for the adjacent residential neighborhood.The ADA accessible design incorporates an elevator for direct entry into each unit, enclosures for bicycle storage, and includes an affordable two-bedroom unit. The project qualifies for LEED/EnergyStar certification, and is currently on track to achieve a LEED Gold efficiency rating.The project will be completed in Summer 2017.
