Contemporary Addition

Here’s a schematic proposal we are having a lot of fun with!

The clients asked for a small mudroom addition for their modest 1950’s ranch, and a new large deck to replace their beloved but undersized one. We’ve proposed a total break from the existing house, in material and architectural language: stained cedar, cable rails, non-orthogonal geometries. The design includes an expansive sloped roof that creates a covered walkway leading to the new side entrance, and further to the new deck as it juts outward. The overhang also serves to create a nice protected area to read a book on rainy and sunny days. New doors and windows connect the deck to the kitchen, which allows for convenient outdoor meals.
