TBT A former farmhouse in Lexington, MA reimagined as a contemporary home for an artist. The project introduces a series of sculptural interventions—sawtooth walls, custom windows, glass parapets, and a peeled facade with an oculus—layered onto the existing structure. Set within a large, rural lot, the design balances playful expression with the scale and character of its surroundings.

Overlooking Salem Harbor in Marblehead, this custom geothermal home pairs high-performance systems with durable, tactile materials. Designed with passive solar principles, a highly insulated envelope, and high-velocity AC, the house balances energy performance with long-term resilience. Bluestone cavity walls and shiplap western red cedar define the exterior, responding to the coastal setting and views across from the boat landing.

Unbuilt TBT. A decade ago, we studied a small entry pavilion addition to a raised ranch in Natick, MA. The design works with the sloped site to create a new entry and mudroom while carving out storage below the deck for firewood and garden tools. A compact intervention to rethink arrival, circulation, and everyday use.

Part of a broader effort to sustain working waterfront use in Salem, MA, the Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina introduces a new boat repair building with offices, a café, and three ship bays for maintenance and repair. Oversized hangar doors allow direct access for boats via travel lift, supporting efficient operations on site. The lot is designed for seasonal flexibility—winter boat storage and summer parking—while maintaining continuity with the surrounding neighborhood. Adjacent to the House of Seven Gables, the project extends the site's long-standing industrial and seafaring use through careful integration with its historic context.

Site visit to Lynn, Massachusetts as the steel frame rises for the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn natatorium. A chance for the BLOOM team to be on site together—seeing the structure take shape and spending time with the group behind the work. @bgclynn

The building supports a layered program: pool below, flexible activity and learning spaces above, including a reconfigurable gym/theater with wall-to-wall turf, and a top floor dedicated to school-age childcare and a teen center.

ITHACA, NY BLOOM has been hired to design various commercial improvements to this classic former school building. Located Downtown, the building is a preservation success and a model of sustainability. DeWitt Mall in Ithaca is an adaptive reuse of the former Ithaca High School / DeWitt Junior High School, designed by William Henry Miller in 1914, a Cornell-associated architect, in a Tudor Revival style. Around 1971, when the building was declared obsolete and put up for sale,
